LG:

The LG SUPER MULTI BLUE BH-100 player:

LG has the bragging rights to having the first combination Bluray and HD DVD player on the market. It also plays DVDs and includes all audio formats to those and Bluray and HD DVD discs. I asked the LG engineers about its lack of DVD-Audio and SACD. They responded that the next generation player would have those capabilities, along with HDMI 1.3 outputs.

PIONEER:

Pioneer made CES 2007 the initial showing of a new plasma technology in a 60 inch panel. They had a small enclosed theater on the floor with it next to their current 6070HD. Sorry, but no pictures were allowed. The blacks were so black that the panel looked "turned off" when no signal was persent. A side-by-side presentation was made with specially shot footage of a model being photographed. That first segment was a truly dazzling show. Pioneer claims that the contrast was so high that it is immeasurable. However, things fell apart in the second segment of the show, which was a clip from a recent Disney picture with Eddie Murphy. The 6070HD looked remarkable better than the prototype panel. On the ladder, the blacks were crushed and the colors were off. After the show, the final of the third day of CES, I queried the presented about these problems. He was very reluctant until I persisted in my questioning him, and only then did he say that it wasn?t his choice of material. This was not a valid reason. So, the next day I asked another Pioneer rep the same questions and his answer was that it was an early engineering prototype. Does Pioneer think that no one will notice these flaws? Please let me know if you find another reviewer that sees the lack of shadows in the engineering prototype.

But this also shows just how good the 6070HD panel is.
