CES and "THE SHOW" 2008 STANDOUTS

GALLO
GALLO'S statement loudspeaker, the Reference 5.1, is almost ready for prime time. An earlier prototype was at lasts years show. This one sounded beautiful. Anthony explained that it works as a line array with no lobing because there are crossovers between the tweeters and midranges.
The new Strada loudspeakers have the tweeter and mid/woofer assembly from the Reference3.1s for about $1,790 a pair (also shown is a Strada used a center channel for another $895). Unfortunantly they would only play home theater and no music in this room. They work well for that but I think they should also perform well on music since the 3.1s do.
Mark & Daniel introduces a line of speakers with the latest reworking of the Heil driver. This this they are able to get it down to 800hZ. They are power hungry at 85dB sensitivity but will easly fill a room. This pair, theMaximus-Monitor, with only a 6.5" woofer goes down to 40hZ.The cabinets on all models are made of Compound Marble and are, as one might expect, rock hard. $2,950/pair.
MANGER
The Manger Zeroboxes are back in the USA in their latest iteration, the new 109-AG Silver edition , and they never sounded better. This version is $12,500 and includes numerous Mundorf Silver/oil caps, Abbey Road cables silver/copper internal wiring, WBT silver Nextgen connectors, etc. Driving then is a Metronome Kalista transport and Metronome C3A Signature DAC into the all analogue Delta Sigma North Pole Special Edition integrated amplifier from Italy (seen on the floor between the speakers): 150w/ch @ 8; response flat to 3Mhz. All cables are by Revelation Audio Labs.
